The missus reported that someone at her place of work wound up having to clean out her deceased mothers house in preparation for a remodel. As they are cleaning out the accumulated detritus they come across canning stuff. Would I be interested? Sure. I can always use more jars. Well, in addition to empty jars (carefully inspected for nicks, chips and other damage) there were some full ones. Pears and peaches mostly. How old? Well, lets let the EOS 7D do the talking:

I can't believe that with all the posts I've done on this blog I haven't done one on freezer jam yet. Freezer jam used to be my staple jam over cooked jam. It is easy easy easy and I've never had a batch fail, even when I had to go change diapers or break up the quarreling children in the middle of the jam session. Seriously, freezer jam is the best for busy mom types who have way too many little people distractions to stand over a pot of jam continuously stirring while it heats up for 15-20 minutes then immediately put it into hot jars and into the canner. With freezer jam,

SHANGRI-LA SUCKS
As last Friday was our observed holiday, I came in for almost two hours to do food pick-ups, then went into town for some shopping/water/trash etc. The normal weekend shtick. I just got an extra twelve hours out of the deal. So I was pretty relaxed and rested. More than the usual weekend. I’m sure that the average Mr. Suburbia spends his weekend mowing the lawn ( shooting putrid showers of partially dried dog feces into the neighbors yard if he is too busy to pick up after the ball-licker first ), yelling at the kids and scratching himself in front of the

You might think prepping for survival means setting aside huge quantities of food that will spoil before you can use it all when you open up a big five gallon bucket. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
What do you do if you don’t want five gallon pails full of a particular food you’d like to store? Maybe you don’t have that much of that item to store in the first place.
Or maybe you’d like to put more than one thing in a pail. And what if you want to store and protect something besides food?
Here’s the solution. You can get 10 Mylar bags that will hold

That's supposedly the peak wind gust from TS Hermine recorded at the airport as reported by the mullet wrapper. Bull shit! 39 MPH winds don't even raise my eyebrow...
At one point last night, my truck looked like it was in a wind tunnel test. Rain was flying off the roof in a stream that cleared the tailgate. Later, as I "slept" in the escape pod, sustained gusts roared through the trees and rocked that camper good. I would say those gusts hit at least 60 MPH. Sheesh, it's gusting to 35 right now and the storm has pretty much passed.
The escape pod held up good,

House Bill 571, which was introduced by Joe Uecker, 66th District Representative, and is co sponsored by 30 other representatives, would amend section 2923.126 of the Ohio Revised Code. The law would not allow private employers to prohibit a concealed carry permit holder from storing the employee's handgun in a locked motor vehicle on the employer's premises. Any current employer policy prohibiting such would have to be amended.

Hundreds of signs across Lee County that proclaim guns are banned at parks, beaches, along canals and at other areas are being changed to comply with state law.
The state allows guns at these locations if the gun owner has a concealed carry permit.

Gun sales have been on the rise in Augusta, particularly to women.
"Over the last year, it's been on pretty much a daily basis," said Eddie Walden, the owner of Waldens. "We'd see (women) before, but not on a daily basis."

Proposition 109, if approved in November, would preclude legislators from making changes in hunting laws, at least by themselves. Instead, they would have to put them on the ballot and ask voters to modify what Proposition 109 would make a state constitutional right to hunt.
